it goes a little something like you > me, as far as i'm concerned.

i had this really philosophical lesson in chemistry yesterday, and loved it to bits.
there were a few people away so throughout the lesson my teacher got more and more into his element, with crazz tangents coming out of his ears.
he brought in books to show us what he had been reading lately..four of them were chem and physics textbooks - which i secretly think is actually really cool in a crazy intelligent way - and the others were other sciency/meaning of life ones..

speaking of, the book 'the meaning of liff' is really incredible, my sister's violin teacher lent her a copy 5+ years ago, and she let me have a read of it. it's full of interesting names of places accompanied with made-up meanings derived from what the word sounds like, for example the author defined 'abilene' to desribe the 'pleasing coolness on the reverse side of the pillow,' and 'louth' to mean 'the sort of man who wears loud check jackets, has a personalised tankard behind the bar and always gets served before you do'. oh the wit of some of them just dazzles me lotslots.. often addressing the little forgotten bits of life that don't get near enough the attention that they deserve.
you can have a look at the site here.

anyway, yesterday, a lovely kook of a kid in my class mentioned, and was backed up by our teacher, a book called 'a short history of nearly everything'.
i'm fairly sure that its pretty science-based too, but i think i'd like to give it a try. i've been really picky with books for so long, and i think i've found out why..i've been trying to knock down the popular bestsellers lists and 9 times out of 10 have walked away from the last page feeling really unsatisfied. people my age always seem to love the books that i don't overly enjoy, and i'm sick of that. so i think i'll try to get into more philosophical ones that really stretch my brain and i dunno.. i think i just need some new old books in my life, like some really old actual classics that are impossible to read, so that i can go back to the newer 'classics' with fresh eyes and relieved/revived enthusiasm.

here are some images i stumbled over yesterday on a blog called '93 Numara'.

today i've been mostly listening to the Black Ghosts & Eels, yummo.
..pay them some attention, they're lovely electronic hearts deserve it.

one of these days i'll stop posting blogs that are 1000 words long, bah.
