'i've been influenced by the idea of liquidity being intercepted by time. i like the idea of putting a pause on emotion. i love fluidity, but i liked the idea of that bulbous shape just being captured, and from the ideas of wax slowly dripping to water droplets on a glass window. it’s something quite feminine and something quite fragile, but also quite structural..and i think that’s something that has influenced me.
i started to explore the idea of suspension..even the idea of human suspension, like when people physically hook themselves. that’s not something i would ever go on to doing myself, i’m not that brave – or not even that brave – its something that’s just curious..someone transcending pain to the state where they’re in this feeling of meditative bliss.
on my last trip to Roma for Altaroma, i loved going into the artisanal spaces and seeing people working on things, from mosaics to glass blowing. i pick up a couple of glass bulbs that i really just responded to as a silhouette, and i guess because i was so influenced by even just the idea of drippings..sometimes these things just possess you, and you can’t understand, you can’t explain it, and its something as little and inane as the idea of a droplet, but..its not. sometimes that’s the most intriguing thing as well.
i think theres always that good intention, i start off with those, and i think chaos zero kicks in. that’s cool though, sometimes, when things happen by accident, or there are surprises; that makes the process a bit more interesting. always good intentions at the beginning, but it never works out that way.
